Cars 3 (2017) review

megashare9.me Another movie about Lightning McQueen! I was pretty surprised Disney added yet another sequel to this series. As much as I love Disney, the "Cars" movies never seem to grab me. In particular, "Cars 3" was very predictable and quite boring.

Let's start with the good stuff. First, the cast did an amazing job bringing life and emotion to their respective characters. Cristela Alonzo, who voiced Cruz, did a particularly exceptional job. Second, the animations were enjoyable to watch. From the vivid colours to the expressive facial expressions of the characters, I think an excellent job was done in this regard. Overall, these were the only two good aspects of this movie.

In terms of the bad stuff, I think my biggest point of contention was with the plot. It was just too predictable, which made the movie quite boring for me. Furthermore, there were some glaring holes to the plot. Examples include, but are not limited to, Sterling's unexplained obsession with Lightning McQueen. My other main issue with this movie was with the character development. While I can understand the transformations of Cruz and McQueen, I felt that they were rushed and quite cliche.

Overall, this movie was mediocre. I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone besides children.

The Weakest Pixar Film to Date,

FilmBuff1994

Cars 3 is a decent movie with a reasonably well developed plot and a great voice cast. It certainly has its moments, a pleasure as always to see these lovable characters once again, particularly Lightning McQueen and Mater, who have a terrific back and forth with one another as always. There is also a very sweet, hard hitting message as we see McQueen accepting his fate and realising it is his time to pass on the torch, the final fifteen minutes certainly serves as an effective finale to the series.

I am somewhat heartbroken to be rating a Pixar film below an eight, but the quality of this film is far less than what I have come to expect from this studio. It is a very slow moving ninety minutes that I would imagine would get quite tedious for kids. It tries too hard to remain grounded, but is not gritty enough for that to be effective, it is far too innocent.

It is also rarely funny, I am not saying this in a way that the jokes fall flat, but it actually does not try to be humorous for very long periods. It has a droll, bland tone throughout, an annoying new character and a very small amount of screen time from all the characters who made the original two harmless fun, bar Lightning. Expected much more from my favourite animation studio. A disappointing conclusion to an enjoyable series, Cars 3 is nothing more than a movie made for merchandising, the kids may love it, but there is very little here for adults.

Lightning McQueen struggles to keep up with a new generation of racers and technology.

Everything you hoped for and didn't get in Cars 2

They realized that when they make a movie just so they can continue to merchandise the brand, people will probably be angry. Well, it took them a few movies to realize it (Cars 2, Planes, Planes 2), but that's right, folks, Cars 3 wasn't a horrible, plot-less, mess of an excuse for a toy commercial. Instead it was heartfelt, eclectic, smart, and finally delivered the sequel that Cars deserved, just a few years and a total flop later.

What made the original Cars great was the fact that it managed to easily weave interesting and likable characters within a plot that was equal parts "hot-shot popular athlete learns a lesson" and "remembering Main Street U.S.A in its glory days." Cars 3 triumphed in similar regard. Lightning McQueen is back and knocked down again, there's same eclectic look back at the past (with great shots of US highways scenes that make you want to take a road trip), and all the old characters you love being utilized properly (yes, we are still salty that Mater got his own sequel because he cannot carry a movie on his own). Add that to the subtly feminist plot-line (be prepared for boycotts), intriguing and well- written new characters, a whole lot of heart-string tugging and you've got the movie we all wished we could've seen when Cars 2 came out.

It's far from perfect. There are some issues with the story line and at sometimes it was so slow we were bored (and obviously so were some of the children in the audience based on the noise and commotion). The narrative starts at a very high point and then takes a few dips and dives as it rolls along, but thankfully makes it's way out of those potholes quickly and grabs your attention back just as quickly as it lost it.

The soundtrack leaves a lot to be desired with no more road-tripping, car driving, top down tunes left after the first (though the score of this film is far superior and samples from not only the original, but also other Pixar outings, which is fabulous). It's predictable, but it's also a Disney movie so that's not completely off-the-wall. It was good for a sequel, especially knowing that it could've been another disaster, they've learned their lessons well.

Pleasant roads ahead! Not as bad as you might expect

I've never been a fan of the "Cars" franchise, but I was curious about this one. The first trailers seemed to indicate they were going for something far more serious and visceral. Turns out that most of the marketing was a bit of a lie. It's not the change of tone I was hoping, although it's not as bad as you might expect.

Imagine "Rocky" meets "Cars". That's pretty much the story here. I noticed that the filmmakers did step up their effort in making the plot more serious and grounded. It still feels like a standard film in this series just a bit more down to earth. I appreciate that some care was put into it rather than it mainly being a vessel to sell more toys. The shame is that the first half is somewhat slow with little humor. I feel like Pixar found it difficult to decide whether it's gonna be more of a fun movie or a dramatic one. Because the idea of Lightning McQueen facing retirement sounds like it would be hard-hitting. We are talking about the tone you'd see in Pixar's "Up". I think it would have been a great idea to mainly stick to a dramatic story and leave the jokes out for this round. The problem is that it lacked energy and a personality. Sometimes it's better to take a risk than playing it safe. And they followed the latter here. We get introduced to a premise that has potential to step up an entire franchise, but instead we have a studio who fears to fully commit and stays on the simple road. It's pretty much every "Cars" film you've seen before, but with serious themes wanting to burst out of this generic result. Click deadpool 2 full movie watch online

The animation is fantastic. It's unbelievable how far CGI has gone. The main characters are alright. Owen Wilson and Cristela Alonzo do their absolute best with their voice performances. More than what the movie deserves. I have to applaud them for their commitment here because we do get a few dramatic scenes and the voice acting was on point there. Overall we get like- able characters in a lack-luster story that follows the same routes we've seen before in underdog Sport films. It's a harmless experience with a pleasant vibe. Watch it if you have kids who adore cars or Pixar. It's still miles ahead of "Cars 2", but unfortunately that isn't saying much.

Narcos (2015)

Incidentally, I saw an ad for Narco on YouTube, and instead of skipping the ads like I normally do, I played this one out because I was genuinely excited for what I was watching. Instantly I jumped onto Netflix and I was not disappointed. This is a truly gripping show, one of the best I've seen this year. The characters and acting are done well and the storyline moves at a fast enough pace to get your adrenalin pumping for the whole episode. My only fear was that it would be too generic of a Crime drama, but those feelings were quickly swept away. This is truly an original and thoroughly planned out TV show with a whole lot of heart. Maybe the best on Netflix at the moment. Narco doesn't disappoint with any aspect of the show. It's exciting and fast paced, but above all, it makes you want to keep coming back for more. Borg vs McEnroe (2017)

I was fortunate enough to see "Borg McEnroe (2017)" on opening night for the 42nd Toronto International Film Festival. Without giving away too much (especially if you're like me and you didn't know much about this 1980s tennis rivalry coming into it), I will say that this is a fabulous film and everyone involved in the making of it should give themselves a huge pat on the back. They have done an incredible job in crafting a story that successfully explores, analyzes and pays homage to two contrasting albeit equally fascinating personalities in sports history. Both of the titular characters are played to perfection thanks to virtuoso performances from Sverrir Gudnason and Shia LaBeouf, the latter of whom was practically made for the role. Regardless of what you think about Shia, his commitment to any role is always awe- inspiring and here he gives a performance that so perfectly combines loud-mouthed arrogance with an icy determination that he actually makes it diffi...
